Transportation
In the 1800's they didn't have speedboats or jets that could go super fast. They had steamboats and trains to travel over land and water. The steam boat was one of the fastest transportations over water. It only went 15 to 25 mph at max speed. The trains that crossed over land were constantly in danger of being hijacked, falling off the tracks, and stalling from time to time. These trains could go 30 mph at max speed.

Technology
In the 1800's they didn't have the technology we have in 2012. They couldn't open the I phone app and get google maps. They had to look over maps, stars, and a compass to navigate or find where they are. They couldn't call eacother from around the world. They couldn't type things on a computer they had to use a typewriter and if they got something wrong they had to restart. They didn't have the fancy technology we have now. Some of the fancier machines were the lightbulb, the printing press, and the first photograph was taken.
